Medical Care
The Ministry funds a monthly medical clinic in Layaye staffed by a local physician and nurse as well as a medical dispensary staffed by a medical assistant two days per week. It is the goal of the Ministry to operate the dispensary on a full-time basis.
Clean Water
The Ministry provides several types of household water filtration systems to about 800 families and supports three water technicians who build and maintain the systems and educate the community about their use.
Sanitation
Fewer than 20% of Haiti’s rural population has access to sanitation. The Ministry is working to find affordable, sustainable solutions to increase the building and use of household latrines.
Deworming
Soil-transmitted helminthic infections (hookworms, whipworms and roundworms) are a major source of illness, growth stunting and cognitive deficits in children in many rural areas throughout Haiti. A deworming program is one of our longest standing efforts to improve the health and quality of life of our sisters and brothers in Haiti. For only about 25¢ per child, we are able to provide effective treatment against these parasitic worms that are a major contributing factor to anemia and malnutrition in the children we serve.
